Charlotte AI Institute is guided by a collaborative leadership team that brings together faculty, staff, and campus partners from across UNC Charlotte. Our leaders combine deep expertise in AI, data science, and many academic and professional disciplines with a strong commitment to responsible, human-centered innovation. They work closely with colleges, centers, and institutes across the university, as well as partners in the Charlotte region, to align AI initiatives with institutional priorities, support faculty and student success, and ensure that our work advances both research excellence and real world impact.

Stephanie Schuckers, Ph.D., is the Bank of America Distinguished Professor in Computing and Informatics at UNC Charlotte. She serves as director of the Center for Identification Technology Research, a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center. She is an entrepreneur and has testified before the U.S. Congress. She is an IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Fellow, serves on the board of directors for the Biometrics Institute, and is president of the IEEE Biometrics Council.  She has volunteered for numerous organizations, including the FIDO Alliance and the Identity Theft Resource Center.

George Banks, Ph.D., is professor of management in the Belk College of Business and co-directs the Center for Leadership Science. He is Chair of the board of directors for the Center for Open Science and editor-in-chief of The Leadership Quarterly. A 2022 Charlotte Business Journal’s 40 under 40 Award recipient,  he has consulted with organizations such as the Missile Defense Agency, United States Patent and Trade Office and the U.S. Forest Service. He regularly volunteers providing training in the Charlotte community, including for the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce Emerging Business Leaders
