Postdoctoral Scholars enhance our research excellence across numerous disciplines as guided by the University Research Strategic Plan. Through exceptional mentoring, postdocs pursue numerous research and innovation pathways tracking towards their next career steps.

The Postdoc Appointee:

  • is a recently (within the last eight years) awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., Sc.D., M.D.)
  • is temporary employment
  • is involved substantially in full-time research or scholarship
  • is viewed as preparatory for a full-time academic and/or research career
  • works under the supervision of a faculty member who functions a mentor
  • has the freedom and is expected to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of appointment
  • may teach one accredited course per semester in addition to his or her normal research appointment duties
