Limited Submissions

The Research Development Office coordinates and administers limited submission funding opportunities. Limited submissions are funding programs in which sponsors restrict the number of proposals an institution may submit. To ensure a fair and competitive selection process, the Research Development Office releases announcements for these opportunities and manages the internal review and nomination process. Faculty interested in applying are encouraged to monitor posted opportunities and follow the outlined internal application procedures and deadlines.

UNC Charlotte Procedures for Limited Submission Programs
The Research Development Office (RDO) follows these three steps when choosing
internal candidates for grant programs with limited submissions:

  1. Program Announcement: Limited submissions announcements are sent
to the appropriate departments by email. Included in the email is a deadline
for notifying RDO of intent to apply.
  2. White Papers: If an internal competition is necessary, RDO solicits white
papers from the proposal teams by sending an email with instructions for
the format of the white paper and an explanation of how the selection will
    be made.
  3. Applicant Selection: The Vice Chancellor and Associate Vice Chancellor
of Research decides whether the Faculty Competitive Grants Committee
(FCGC) or the Deans and Provost will select the proposals that go forward.

When the selection is made, RDO notifies the proposal teams and works with the
winning team(s) to produce a competitive proposal.

Submitting for Internal Limited Submission Selection
Applicants must submit their white papers to the Limited Submissions Smartsheet form by the due date specified in the call for white papers.

Please note: The Research Development Office (RDO) makes every attempt to identify limited submission funding opportunities and provide information on them in a timely manner in order to coordinate the internal review and selection process. When researchers identify a limited submission program that has not been announced or does not appear on this web page, they should forward the program information immediately to their College-Based Research Officer or contact Kailey Hess, Limited Submissions &Internal Funding Coordinator in RDO (Khess10@charlotte.edu).
