NCI Pipeline Development Program

Internal Commercialization Funding for UNC Charlotte Researchers

The NCI Pipeline Development Program is an internal, milestone-driven grant program designed to help UNC Charlotte researchers advance early-stage technologies toward commercialization readiness.

Supported by NCInnovation, the program provides targeted funding to advance promising discoveries from Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 1–2 to TRL 3 or higher, enabling projects to demonstrate proof of concept and prepare for industry partnerships, follow-on translational funding, or participation in NCInnovation’s broader technology development pipeline.

Unlike traditional research grants, the NCI Pipeline Development Program focuses on accelerating commercialization, validating technical approaches, and ensuring industry relevance.

Program Purpose

UNC Charlotte researchers generate a strong pipeline of innovative ideas and intellectual property. However, many early-stage technologies require initial validation and milestone funding before they are ready for external investment or commercialization opportunities.

The NCI Pipeline Development Program helps close this gap by supporting projects that:

  • Demonstrate strong commercialization potential
  • Validate early technical concepts
  • Strengthen intellectual property positioning
  • Engage industry stakeholders
  • Position technologies for larger funding opportunities

Successful projects will be positioned to pursue future opportunities, including:

  • NCInnovation Funding ($500,000 – $2M)
  • Industry partnerships
  • Licensing opportunities
  • Startup formation
  • Follow-on translational research funding

Funding: Awards from $10,000–$25,000

Deadline: April 3, 2026 – 5:00 PM (Summer 2026 Cycle)
