Research Security Training

In response to the recent National Security Presidential Memo 33 (NSPM-33) on Enhancing Security in Scientific Research, UNC Charlotte is implementing new research security training requirements for all faculty, staff, and students involved in federally funded research.

Why is this important?

  • Protecting Our Research: Safeguarding our research is essential to maintaining our academic integrity and national security.
  • Compliance with Federal Regulations: Adherence to these new regulations is mandatory for continued federal funding.

What does this mean for you?

  • Mandatory Training: All eligible individuals will be required to complete a comprehensive research security training program through the University’s CITI Program.
  • Regular Updates: Training will be updated periodically to reflect evolving threats and best practices.
  • The initial training expires three years after its completion, at which point a refresher must be completed.

Next Steps:

The Research Security course is now accessible through the familiar CITI Program, which you may already use for Conflict of Interest, Export Control, IRB, IACUC, or RECR training. Click here for the CITI online training program.
