Research with human subjects requires IRB determination or approval before the research begins. Research activities should not begin until IRB determination/approval is obtained. Once the research is approved, the protocol should remain open/active through data analysis.
Types of Review & Review Timeline:
- Exempt determination (i.e, exempt from a higher level of review),
- Timeline: 7-14 days
- Exempt determination requiring Limited Review
- Timeline: 10-20 days
- Expedited review by the Committee (i.e., review by one or more members), or
- Timeline: 6-10 weeks
- Full review by the full Committee at a convened meeting.
- Timeline: 1-3 months
