Limited Submissions
Some agencies place limits on the number of proposals that a university may submit in response to a particular Request For Proposals or funding announcement. For those programs in which more faculty express interest than are allowed by the program to submit, UNC Charlotte must internally screen all eligible and interested proposals to select those to be submitted.
Please note: The Center for Research Excellence (CRE) makes every attempt to identify limited submission funding opportunities and provide information on them in a timely manner in order to coordinate the internal review and selection process. When researchers identify a limited submission program that has not been announced or does not appear on this web page, they should forward the program information immediately to their College-Based Research Officer.
UNC Charlotte Procedures for Limited Submission Programs
The Center for Research Excellence (CRE) follows these three steps when choosing internal candidates for grant programs with limited submissions:
- Program Announcement: Limited submissions announcements are sent to the appropriate departments by email. Included in the email is a deadline for notifying CRE of intent to apply.
- White Papers: If an internal competition is necessary, CRE solicits white papers from the proposal teams by sending an email with instructions for the format of the white paper and an explanation of how the selection will be made.
- Applicant Selection: The Vice Chancellor of Research and Economic Development decides whether the Faculty Competitive Grants Committee (FCGC) or the Deans and Provost will select the proposals that go forward. The FCGC selects proposals except when the funding opportunity targets an area of strategic importance to the University.
When the selection is made, CRE notifies the proposal teams and works with the winning team(s) to produce a competitive proposal.

Programs with active and past deadlines for the current year are listed below in internal intent deadline date order. We anticipate these programs to have similar deadlines in upcoming years, and will send email notifications and update this page when new information is available.
